Fetus in fetu is a rare condition usually found in early infancy. This entitiy is often confused with a teratoma. Whatever the pathogenesis of teratoma and fetus in fetu, there is an agreement on the main feature and treatment of fetus in fetu.
Two
main
criteria for distinction between teratoma and fetus in fetu are high degree fetiformity and evidence of axialization. Our patient was a thirtynine days old male baby with an abdominal mass thought to be a teratoma before the operation. The mass
was
well
encapsulated and two limb-like projections were seen. Rediographically vertebral columna, ribs and long bones were identified. Microscopic evaluation demonstrated normal histologic features of skin, skin appendages, fat, blood vessels, muscle,
bone
marrow and small intestine. We present a case with fetus in fetu of retoperitoneum with literature review.
